First, boat wheelie.

Kinja'd!!!

Now my actual question. I’ve acquired a leftover PC at work. Windows 7, 1TB hard drive, I5-750 processor. It has an ATI Radeon HD5570 graphics card, which I know is pretty weak. I’m just wondering if anyone has experience with this thing, and what I could possibly play on it. Been just a console guy (old PS2 ) till now.

I think a boat ‘wheelie’ is called a ‘propie”

I’ve played Dark Souls 1 and 2 and Skyrim on an HD 5000something Radeon mobility (the laptop version) with an early i5 (gen2). You should be fine playing anything from 2014 or earlier as long as you play at a lower resolution (720p) and don’t mind minimum settings. It won’t look better than a PS3 game, but it will do. Basically, yes it is possible to play many games, but no, it is not going to look good and it will require messing with settings to run smooth.

You should be fine with older games and emulators, though.

For the record, check the minimum requirements for games, and search those requirements alongside your own equipment here:

That’s not word of god, but that should give you an idea of how your hardware compares. Just remember that for CPUs, clock rate matters more than core numbers for most games.

Make sure you update you drivers. AMD cards are notorious for being powerhouses that can take abuse, but have very little support/tech/features, so your default drivers can really limit you.

If it was a sandy bridge or newer processor i would say go for a new gfx card but first gen core processors are not good for gaming anymore

Free leftover from work. It’s mostly getting put to use as a media center hooked to a 42" LCD and it won’t be getting any upgrades. One of these days I’ll have time for a new hobby and I’ll cobble together a liquid-cooled custom build of my own.

When in doubt, you can always play One Finger Death Punch.

Did that yesterday trying to turn on my old laptop. I’ll show that stupid power button who’s boss.

I’m running a 1st gen i5 as my day-to-day system. Although my gaming rig has GTX680 or something in it, on the i5 I just slapped in a leftover 9800GT and it seems to be holding its own.

If you have a Micro Center store near you, go over there and check out the returned items. I’ve found all sorts of decent items over there at about half normal price. I think I paid $75 for the 680 several years ago, which was quite a good deal at the time.
